Josh can function as a broader control solution or as a voice layer within a supported professionally integrated environment. That does not make one option universally superior. The choice depends on privacy preferences, supported equipment, desired commands, interface habits, budget, and the existing automation platform. Compare actual workflows: lighting scenes, shades, thermostats, television sources, music zones, failure behavior, and household permission rules. Can Alexa, Siri, or Google Assistant control Control4, Crestron, or Savant?

Does Josh.ai work if the internet goes down?

The underlying automation platform may continue local functions, and occupants should retain direct control through switches, keypads, remotes, thermostats, touchscreens, or other local interfaces. Plan fallback intentionally: keep physical lighting and climate controls, provide dedicated entertainment remotes, and document which features depend on the internet. A UPS can keep modem, router, switches, controller, and Josh hardware powered during short electrical interruptions, but it cannot restore a failed ISP connection. Does Josh.ai work with Control4 and my existing smart-home devices?
Yes, Josh.ai offers an official Control4 integration, but compatibility and command depth still depend on the exact Control4 project, driver, device model, subscription, and software version. Do not assume that every model from a supported brand exposes every function. A television may support power and source control but not all menus; a thermostat may expose temperature but not advanced zoning. Legacy equipment may need an intermediary controller or replacement. Build an inventory with model numbers and desired commands, then mark each as supported, conditionally supported, or unsupported. Test the high-priority workflows before final acceptance.
Can Josh.ai understand room-aware and multi-part commands?
Yes. Room context and natural-language compound control are core Josh.ai capabilities, provided microphone placement, areas, device naming, and programming are correct. Good naming matters. “Great room,” “family room,” and “living room” become ambiguous if residents use them interchangeably. Is voice control safe for locks, alarms, and gates?
Voice should not be the sole authorization method for high-consequence actions.
