What is Distributed Video?

Distributed Video is a residential system that makes selected video sources available at more than one display or room. Sources may remain in a central rack or other managed location while matrix switching, extension, or network endpoints deliver the chosen audio and picture to each destination.

How Distributed Video works in a connected system

A distributed-video design separates content devices from the screens that use them. A control interface requests a source for a room, the routing system assigns the correct input to that output, and transport equipment carries the signal over its supported medium. Traditional systems use an HDMI matrix and point-to-point extenders; AV-over-IP systems encode sources and send streams through configured network switches to decoders. Distributed video does not mean every display can watch different content from one physical source. One source output normally produces one program at a time, even if it is routed to several screens. Independent viewing requires separate tuners, streaming devices, accounts, or source outputs as permitted by the content service and equipment.

Can distributed video send 4K HDR to every television?

It can when every source, router, extender or network endpoint, cable path, receiver, and display supports the required format and distance. One older display or incorrectly managed EDID can cause the source to select a lower common format.

Does a distributed-video system replace each television's apps?
